December 2009 A young boy doing his mathematics home work. My tracks in the desert North of Yulin. Self portrait in the desert. The wind has blown this dead plant in all directions for so long that a small circular trench has been dug around it. A chimney sticking out of the Great Wall. This was a very steep descent. I could not see the path from above, and needed the help of a local farmer to find it. It was very narrow, and one misplaced foot would have been enough… Three leaves from the same tree. A couple waiting to get past some road works. Working on a new road. Seeds being dried outside a window. Cat waiting for its meal. A horse and its owner. The Great Wall in the background. End of October – but still very hot during the day. It didn't bite. The day after a Chinese wedding. An irritating thorn and seed I presume. It easily penetrates my two heavy duty tent grounds sheets. Many of the paths in steep terrain are narrow. They can be challenging to walk when they are covered with snow and ice. Great wall covered by snow in the Ordos desert This temple was beautifully situated on a mountain top. Cold morning in the tent. I had a fine layer of coal dust on my face. An abandoned school. This thorn plant is amongst the worst I have encountered so far. This guard dog was taken off guard!
