The Dream

Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go,
only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.

More here: Inspiration, The Great Wall 1998 and Decision time

Earlier this year, I spotted my old Kindergarden teacher at the local shop. I offered to drive her home. In the car, she gave me a summary of her life: Family, work, dreams and ambitions. As I pulled up at her house, she lowered her voice and said “All those years- Life is so short! But…” – she said contently – “I am grateful for the life I have lived, and wouldn’t changed a thing”. As she walked up the driveway, I sat still and let her words sink in.

All people dream. Some people dream of raising a family, or visiting a long lost relative or friend. Others dream of completing an education. Others dream about getting a good and secure job, and living a metropolitan life to the full.

My dreams often have a flavour of relative solitude and physical endurance. I thrive on the unpredictable situations that often occur on adventures. I love photography, and I like sharing my pictures online. I also meet interesting people that I probably would not have met otherwise. All these experiences make me a happier man when I return, and give me many intense memories to look back at.

If our dreams are important, we should strive to follow them. I hope through these pages to show how I went about making my dream about walking the Great Wall of China a concrete plan. If these pages can be an inspiration to other people that are considering following their dream, then they have served their purpose.
